About Guy Emanuele Elementary School

Our school is named after the long-time New Haven superintendent, Guy Emanuele, Jr. Here is a bit of his story...

"Guy Emanuele, Jr. began his career as a teacher at Barnard Junior High School — now Union City Family Center and Decoto School for Independent Study — in Union City in 1956, and later worked as a counselor and administrator before being hired as the New Haven school district’s superintendent in 1976.

The Pennsylvania native led the district through its glory days, overseeing the creation of an alternative high school and the approval of several bond measures, as well as emphasizing athletics, arts and extracurricular activities as crucial components of education.

When Emanuele retired from New Haven in 1998, the longtime Fremont resident ran successfully for his hometown school board.

Emanuele brought decades of knowledge and experience to the board, but he brought something more than that: an abiding concern for the welfare of every student.

“I’m really an old-fashioned guy,” Emanuele said in an interview with reporter Grace Rauh this week. “(I want) to educate the whole man, not just in science and language, but in music and athletics. That is part of developing a positive character, a good character.”
