September 29 Principal Update

Good morning EML families,

I hope everyone had as much fun this past week as our Tigers did! This week we had so many exciting events and a minimum day! The Studio 11 Art Showcase was on Wednesday which displayed so many beautiful art pieces. We had our Mid-Autumn Festival guest author Pearl AuYeung read her book “The Best Kind of Mooncake” to students. EML’s Ms. Camacho and the Aztec Dancing group shared their work and culture with us to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. This is all in addition to the great learning they had in their classrooms.

Jog A Thon is Coming!
Next week is our big fundraiser : The Jog-A-Thon!!! Please continue to pledge on mybooster.com or turn in your cash and check donations next week. We are looking to have a lot of fun on Wednesday. For those that are coming to volunteer, please make sure you:

  1. Arrive early to check in. We will be admitting 4th and 5th grade parents first since their run is first thing in the morning.
  2. If you have not attended our parent volunteer meeting with me, there will be an opportunity the morning of the event. You may preview our Slide Deck Presentation here. It is a work in progress and feedback is always welcome.
  3. Make sure to check in with your classroom teacher to see what help they need.

Additionally, if you would like to donate water or snacks for the students, please bring them directly to your classroom teacher. Students should bring their own water bottle, but may always use the water fountains on campus as well.

Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent teacher conferences are this week. This is a great opportunity to check in with your teachers, ask questions about the class, and learn more about how your child is doing and how you can help them at home. We also have two dedicated minimum days on Thursday and Friday to support the meetings. Please remember that students get out at 12:05 on minimum days.

RESPECT: How do we show this?
Our school’s role has always been to support positive relationships with students and staff. Last month we brought up:

“If you see something bad happening, you need to say something to a staff member or someone you feel safe telling.”

Remember that all telling, is not always tattle-telling.

Along this same line, we are dealing with many issues of peer pressure. Peer pressure usually looks like an individual or group of people of the same or similar age influencing others to do something. This can be positive or negative. Positive Peer Pressure looks like friends helping others when they are struggling, including each other in games, listening to different ideas, and being safe by following the rules. In the coming weeks, we will be talking with students about peer pressure and how to help each other when they feel it is negative peer pressure. We ask that you talk with your students about the positive and negative impacts they see at school.

We appreciate your partnership and help in creating a positive school environment. Please have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to seeing you next week.

Sincerely,
Clinton Puckett
Principal
